Line Challenge: "Of all the stupid, idiotic things to do...."
Carson winced as the stocky figure bombed through the Infirmary doors. "Aye, Rodney, what can I do--"
"Of all the stupid....idiotic.... things to do!" Rodney ground out.
He winced again, feeling suddenly that he should have taken something for the headache he realised he would probably have after this was over. "That it was, Rodney."
"You could have died."
Carson leaned back in the bed. "And if it wasn't for you, I would have."
"Don't remind me," Rodney groaned, dropping into a chair beside the bed and taking in the burns on the Scots' arms and torso. "Are you in a lot of pain?"
"No, Biro's been very good to me. I'm laying on gelpacks, and they're helping the ones on me back."
Rodney winced. "That's where you got the brunt, huh?"
Carson nodded. "Radek says that the crystal shield you put around that bloody cooler contained just enough of the explosion that all it did was burn us -- me and Sergeant Lawson." He winced a third time. "And I wasn't about to let you do it."
"I'm glad you let me. If I'd have lost you... you and John, you're the best friends I've got and the ones who know most about what's going on with--- everything. I can't lose you, Carson. I can't."
Carson reached over and squeezed his arm. "I'm here, Rodney. I'm here. You didn't lose me, you daft bugger. I'm here."
And Rodney nodded, afraid that if he spoke he'd not be able to control his emotions and burst into rather unmanly tears. He wouldn't do that.
Not even for his best friend.
